Judy Middleswarth was driving to a local garage sale when she was struck from by behind by a driver with state minimum coverage. She settled with the at-fault driver's insurance company for $25k and proceeded with an underinsured motorist claim against her insurance company, Frankenmuth. The defense admitted liability so the issues at trial were causation and damages. Judy had significant degeneration in her cervical spine at the same levels of her disc bulges. After a two-day trial, the jury returned a verdict of $143k for past noneconomics, $75k for future noneconomics, and $282k for future economics for a total of $500k.
