Escobia v. Rasperry

October 2024 - Escobia v. Rasperry: DUI/Wrongful death cases that went to trial because USAA responded to our global policy-limit demand with a settlement as to the owner only. For unclear reasons USAA removed the at-fault driver from the settlement documents and even refused to defend him for the first six months of litigation. As a result, even though we offered to settle with all involved, USAA did not protect the insured driver, so the case settled as to the owner, but not the driver. Trial resulted in $50M compensatory verdict and $500M punitive verdict. Defense Counsel was George Ranalli with 4-5 other attorneys from his firm.
