Register NowOn January 9, 2019, there was a horrific crash which killed a mother in front of her 12-year old twins and her 17-year old son arrived at the scene before first responders, finding his mother dead. The driver of the truck who hit her car was arrested and charged with felony manslaughter based upon the presence of methamphetamine in his system as well as evidence of speeding and texting. However, early investigation revealed that the road where the crash occurred had recently been repaved and potentially was a factor in causing the crash. After extensive discovery, it was proven that the paving company cut corners to save money leaving the road in a more dangerous condition than before they began their work. On July 12, 2021, after five days of trial, a jury in Boone County, Kentucky found the paving company 100% at fault, determined the driver of the truck was not negligent, and returned a $74,000,000 verdict with $24,000,000 in compensatory damages and $50,000,000 in punitive damages.
